Handcrafted in Northern Peru using a classic batik process, the delicate vine motif is added as a ‘slip’ then after firing, a ‘paleta’ or wooden tool is used to gently remove it, revealing the light clay below. In a Chulucanas tradition, the firing process involves smoked mango leaves, which has a resin that infuses the rich black pigment.
